What To Expect

Early in the morning the search for the hotels in El Calafate begins and then heading towards the mythical Route 40. This route borders the Argentino Lake, crosses the Santa Cruz River and La Leona River, after 1.15 hours we will arrive at the Hotel de Campo La Leona , almost a museum on Route 40, where you can have a coffee with homemade cakes.
The journey continues bordering Lake Viedma with the Andes Mountains in the background. Before arriving at El Chalten we will make a stop at the Viedma Glacier Viewpoint from where we will appreciate a beautiful panoramic view of the homonymous Lake and Glacier and the emblematic Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre hills.

After a total of 3 hours of route we will arrive at the Villa de Montaña El Chalten. Here we will make a brief stop in the center of town and then continue along Route 23 to enter the Cordillera on the way to the South Point of Lago del Desierto located 37 kms (1.15 hrs gravel and stone route). There we will embark towards the Vespignani Reserve. During the 20-minute navigation you will be able to contemplate the Huemul and Vespignani Glaciers and the north face of Cerro Fitz Roy. Once in the reserve, they will be received by the local guide who will provide information on the 3 self-guided trails of different levels of difficulty (easy, moderate and difficult). From the last two it is possible to appreciate closely the Vespignani Glacier -the largest and most imposing of the Lago del Desierto- and again appreciate an incredible view of the north face of Cerro Fitz Roy.
Towards the end of the afternoon, at the agreed time, passengers will have to return to the meeting point to embark again towards the southern tip and later transfer to El Calafate.
