What To Expect

"In the consciousness of French people, Berezina is associated with a series of misfortunes which pursued the Russian campaign of the Napoleonic army... I bow the head to the memory of the French and Russian soldiers who were at war here. I bow the head to the Belarusian earth which became a shelter for these soldiers" - these words of the ambassador of France reflect the memory of many people whose ancestors have been at war and have died at Berezina in 1812. The Berezinsky crossing near Borisov, according to historians, became the most gloomy page in the history of Napoleon's wars. Having lost about 50 thousand men, most part of the artillery and of the wagon trains, on November 26 the French army ceased to exist as an organized fighting force. Events of those years are recollected on memorial signs of the Brilevsky field.Nowadays on Brilevsky field every year in November a historical re-enactment of the battle and of the river crossing takes place, during which representatives of historical clubs from Poland, France, Russia, Germany take part.
