What To Expect

One of the most beautiful bike tours in the region leads through the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Potsdam's palace and garden landscape in southwest Berlin. Join this guided bike tour and enjoy! You have the option to choose between the following two routes. The final decision is made at the meeting point in the group on-site. Both routes start at the north exit of Potsdam Central Station.1) The north route:From Potsdam Central Station it goes comfortably through the historic Potsdam old town: from the rebuilt "Landtagschloss" on the Alter Markt over the Bassinplatz, over the Dutch Quarter to the Brandenburg Gate and the Nauener Tor. After leaving the old town you will reach the Belvedere on the Pfingstberg with its magnificent view of the “Prussian Arcadia”. From there, the journey goes down to the New Garden, where you can take a short break in the dairy on the banks of the Havel. Through the New Garden, past the Cecilienhof Palace and the Marble Palace, you finally come to the Glienicke Bridge, in the middle of which the border once ran and which now connects Potsdam with Berlin again.2) The southern route: (a little shorter and more landscape-oriented)The tour leads from the main station along the Neue Fahrt into Babelsberg Park, first to the Flatow Tower, from where you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view. You continue via the court arbor and the small castle to the neo-Gothic Babelsberg castle of Kaiser Wilhelm I. Then you cross the Teltow Canal and get to Berlin.Common part of the routesThis is also where the two routes converge. On the Berlin side, there is a pavilion called the “Great Curiosity” and the two Glienicke palaces. The path now always leads along the banks of the Havel. You pass the Sacrower Heilandskirche, the excursion restaurant Moorlake and the romantic Pfaueninsel. At the Heckeshorn you have a beautiful view of the Wannsee lido and the many sailing boats. In the idyllic street “Am Großen Wannsee” you will also encounter the heights and depths of German history in the form of magnificent villas and yacht clubs: first of all, the scene of the infamous Wannsee Conference, where in January 1942 it was decided to carry out the murder of European Jews. A little later you drive past the villa and the garden of the (Jewish) painter Max Liebermann, which he often painted. The endpoint of the tour is the Wannsee train station, from where you can drive back to Potsdam or Berlin.
