What To Expect

If you already have a bit of sailing experience that you want to expand, this advanced sailing course is perfect for you. The professional instructors will build on your already-existing knowledge to get you ready for your sailing adventures ahead. The course runs once a week for three weeks.Content of the course:

Strengthening of the elementary sailing maneuvers and commands from the beginner course
Extension of sailing maneuvers and commands by docking and unberthing under sails, setting and recovering sails in the harbor, sailing on the windward edge/crossing, sail trim/weight trim
Extension of the safety-relevant maneuvers and commands by man overboard maneuvers (MOB) - variation 2
Knotting (all knots from beginner course + Rolling Hitch, round turn with 2 half strokes)
Territory knowledge (wind and weather forecast)
Theory in self-study: damage to hull and rigging, safety equipment
Final internal examination (practice) for admission to the next level course
Course objective: Preparation course for the VDS sailing license open keelboat

What to remember

Important info

Your instructors speak German and English. A separate English course cannot be offered at the moment
Whether or not the course can take place depends on the weather and wind conditions
In case of (thunder) storms, the course will be postponed to the next available date
Prerequisite for participation: Stella Maris beginner & VDS basic sailing certificate (or other comparable prior knowledge from a different sailing school)
Participants must be in a normal physical condition
Participants must have a certain degree of swimming ability (Jugendschwimmschein Bronze or comparable certificate for 15min free-swimming)
The minimum age for this course is 16 years
Participants under 18 years of age can only take part with the written consent of a legal custodian. The course total duration is 10.5 hours of intense lessons, divided into 3 sessions/dates of 3.5 hours and the practical and theoretical examination of 3 hours
Please bring: Change of clothes, warm clothes for underneath (skiing underwear, fleece), sun protection (e.g. hat, sun cream, sunglasses), waterproof shoes or wellington boots (non-slip and with a white sole), something to drink (no glass bottles allowed)
