Without a doubt, Tallinn's Old Town is one of the best-preserved in Europe, which is why it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Old Town consists of 2 sections: Lower Town - an area of severe german Gothic and Upper Town - full of classic houses of nobility. During the tour, you will find out from your guide, how Tallinn got wealthy, how it attracted new powers and resisted them as well as why it is known as a «town of pepper and salt», why rich merchants were called «pepper sacks» and how Estonians, local germans, and catholic monks communicated to each other. After meeting your guide, you will start your journey from Lower town, where you will pass the Margaret Stout Tower. Walking by cozy cobblestone streets you will get acquainted with Tallinn's history through interesting stories and legends. You cannot miss the medieval dwellings from the 14-15th century, the oldest Town Hall and Pharmacy in Europe as well as the St Olaf church. Then it is time to explore Upper Town - area of german crusaders, viceroys and bishop quarters. You will go into two rather different churches in Estonia and take a look at Toompea Castle, established for the viceroy, and nowadays housed by the parliament. The climax of the tour is a visit of a viewing platform.Your tour ends at the Town Hall Square, where your guide reserves some time to answer all the questions, recommend where to try traditional food&drinks, which souvenirs are worth buying, where to have good time with kids, what museums to visit, etc.On this tour, you will see: - Fat Margaret Stout - Three Sisters dwelling - St Olaf church - Great Guild dwelling - Marzipan museum - Holy Spirit church - Town Hall Pharmacy - Town Hall Square - Wheel well square - Yard of Danish King - St Nicholas church - Alexander Nevsky cathedral - Toompea castle - Dome church - Catarina street - Dominican monastery
