Walk in the footsteps of Gen. Hannibal & Escipión 213BC exploring the Roman fortress of Saguntum, Roman Theatre & elements of Islamic-medieval Valencia. The tour combines impressive historic sites with a Romanic themed Wine tasting + Maridaje lunch option at the foot of the amphitheatre. Wines from autóctono grapes Mourvedre, Garnacha & Moscatel were historically important from Camp de Mourvedre & our glorious tasting represents these wines in various styles. Sadly the comarca fell from it´s Roman viticultural glory to a registered 100hct in 1975; mainly Moscatel & only 1hct of Mourvedre. The 1912 invasion of filoxera killed 90% of vines & then legislation changed agriculture, ending the reign of vineyards in Campo de Sagunto.
We pay homage to to the Romans & the wines they exported to Rome with a fantastic tasting of dry wines & the Royal historic Fondillon aged 30yrs with an inspiring maridage lunch. FYI booking on Viator we pay 26% commission, booking directly is also possible.
