What To Expect

Visit the Royal Abbey, located in the little town called Fontevraud-l'Abbaye, and plunge into 1000 years of French history!Founded in 1101 by Robert d'Arbrissel, the Abbey gained prestige thanks to the Plantagenets dynasty: Henry II, King of England, his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, previously Queen of France, and also their son Richard the Lionheart, who made the Abbey of Fontevraud a royal burial place. The Abbey of Fontevraud was then converted into prison under Napoleon from 1804 to 1963, then in 2000 listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and today combines heritage, living spaces, and contemporary artistic creation.During your visit to this exceptional site, you can enjoy a meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant (at your own expense) set around the cloisters in a peaceful atmosphere.
