Are you ready to explore the Samaria gorge? Start your tour from Rethymno with a personalized pick-up at around 5.30am – 6.30am and enjoy a day in the unspoiled nature of Crete. The gorge is located at the south of Chania Prefecture in southwest Crete, is 13 km long, and ends at the shores of the South Cretan Sea in Agia Roumeli. After two hours’ drive, you will arrive at the entrance to the plateau Omalos of the White Mountains. Here you can have enjoy your breakfast on the top of the mountain close to nature and the fresh air before you start your activity.The hiking starts from Xiloskalo, you will step over rocks and stones down the gorge, through a fantastic forest among thousands of old trees, along a little river and fresh-water springs. The walk is challenging, and it will last approximately 5-6 hours. The path follows the route of Taras, a river with gurgling, lucid water. Afterwards, you will reach the Iron Gates (Sideroportes), the narrowest spot of the route, just a few meters wide, but 300 meters.At the end of the gorge, you will reach the Lybian sea and the village of Agia Roumeli, where you can relax and enjoy a swim or a meal at the local taverns. After some relaxation, you will join the rest of the group to take the ferry to Chora Sfakion, where you will catch the bus that will take you back to Rethymno from around 8pm – 8.30pm.
