Its landscape, filled with sugarcane fields, rice fields, rivers, hills, boulders, temples, forts, watch towers, aqua ducts, gateways, huge monoliths, and other hundreds of ancient ruins spread over 26 sq km, is unparalleled in its composition. Hampi, earlier known as Vijayanagara, was among the five richest capitals of the world in the 16th CE. All the highlights of Hampi—Vittala Temple, Virupaksha, Lakshmi Narasimha, Badavi Linga, Zenana, Mahanavami Dibba, Hazara Ramaswami, Sasivekalu Ganesha, Hemakuta Hill, Queen’s Bath, etc.will be covered in about 6 hours of sightseeing, culminating with the mesmerizing sunset view. Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level. Approximately 12 hours of drive in a day but roads are excellent. Visit of Hampi includes about 3 km of walk under sun.
