Miniature painting is a style, which evolved and flourished in the royal courts of Rajasthan and each Rajput kingdom evolved a distinct style, but with certain common features. Many historians believe that the Mughals imported this art from Persia to India. The paintings depict a number of themes and events, including epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, Krishna’s life, beautiful landscapes, and humans. The colours were extracted from certain minerals, plant sources, conch shells, and were even derived by processing precious stones including gold and silver. The preparation of desired colours was a lengthy process that takes up to weeks and artists use fine quality brushes too. Each painting takes from a couple of days to weeks to design depending on the detailing and size of the artwork itself.
