Siena is an unmissable stop for those staying in Tuscany and a popular destination at any time of the year. Explore this jewel of medieval art with an experienced guide, discover the local traditions and culture as well as the art and architecture from different centuries that make this city unique. Follow your guide along the main streets in the historic center to admire the major buildings, and get lost in the most characteristic little streets, which are less known but equally rich in history and charm. You will visit the famous Piazza del Campo, the main square of Siena, where the famous Palio takes place twice a year, and the Palazzo Pubblico, the town hall, which houses the Civic Museum. In Piazza del Campo you will also see the Fonte Gaia fountain by Jacopo della Quercia. The walk continues towards the historic palaces and the most important sacred sites of the city: Palazzo Tolomei, one of the oldest private buildings in Siena, Palazzo Salimbeni, the headquarter of the oldest public bank in Europe, the Basilica of San Domenico, where the relics of St. Catherine are preserved, and the Sanctuary of St. Catherine of Siena, where the saint lived with her family. This exciting tour will also make you discover the beauties that the main roads offer, such as the ancient via Banchi di Sopra, one of the most important roads for pilgrims on their way to Rome who used to stop at the ancient medieval hospital of Santa Maria della Scala. The experience ends in Piazza Duomo, where you will be amazed by the wonderful Cathedral. The guide will take you back in time by telling you the extraordinary story of what had to become the largest cathedral in Europe. Last but not least, during the visit it will be possible to taste some typical Sienese biscuits, such as "ricciarelli" and "cantucci" (local almond sweets).
