Discover the richly decorated villas of the Roman nobility – you can still see frescoes on the walls – as well as public spaces such as the Forum, Amphitheatre and gladiator barracks.Then, in the afternoon, discover the architect of Pompeii's destruction – Mt Vesuvius. Going by road to the 1,000m mark. There's also an optional trip to the summit to take in the views – visibility permitting – over the Bay of Naples.
