The winery was founded in 1665 by a Spanish man: the count of Lemos. In 1925 the first wine was bottled by Piero and Lisetta Leone de Castris, the grandparents of the current owner Piernicola Leone de Castris. In 1943 the Five Roses was born - the first rosé ever to be bottled in Italy. Furthermore, this was followed by the 50° Vendemmia Salice Salentino Reserve - the first Salice red wine to be bottled in 1954, still 20 years before the birth of the DOC Salice Salentino. The experience includes a guided tour of the winery with a focus on its over 350 years of history presented at the ' Piero and Salvatore Leone de Castris' Wine Museum.
