What To Expect

Todi, a lovely town perched on a hill in the Tiber Valley, is the birthplace of Jacopone from Todi, poet, Franciscan friar and author of Stabat Mater Dolorosa, one of the greatest Latin hymns of all time. The historic center reflects the wealth and prosperity of the town in the Middle Ages, but Todi is still celebrated today as one of the most liveable towns in Italy, a modern paradise.Explore the city center focusing on the famous central square closed on one side by the Cathedral of Saint Mary and on the other side by the 13th-14th-century government buildings. Visit the Church of Saint Fortunato, which preserves the tomb of the saint.Just a few steps out of the old town you will see the Renaissance architecture of the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione, which was built to house a miraculous 15th-century image that attracted crowds of pilgrims to the town.
