Concert of traditional Japanese performing arts with 1000 years of history and reading
The Tale of Genji, one of the world's oldest full-length novels, is one of the greatest works of dynastic literature written during the Heian period (8th to 12th centuries). This program will depict a part of the story through Gagaku (ancient court music), which is adopted as the UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Shomyo (Buddhist ritual music), Sō-kyoku (Koto music composed in the Edo period) based on The Tale of Genji, and reading. Why don't you enjoy the story of Hikaru Genji, a man of exceptional beauty and intelligence with a talent for "shiika kangen" (poetry and music), the most popular form of education at the time, and his surrounding characters, as well as the 54 chapters that depict various human situations through music and reading.
