The monarch (Danaus plexippus) is perhaps the most well known of all American butterflies.
The Monarch Butterfly is famous for it's migration, which is said to be one of the most fascinating phenomenons of the natural world.
Originating in southern Canada and the United States, they travel to overwintering and mountainous sites in central Mexico. This process covers the lifespan of three to four generations of the butterfly.
