Immerse yourself in the vibrant celebration of Carnival, Art and Ancestral Mezcal in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca. This ancient event, which takes place on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
Minas, is known as the birthplace of mezcal. In addition, it has endemic magueys such as the tripón maguey and barrel maguey.
The Carnival begins with the uncovering of tepache, a traditional local drink, served with onion, chili and chili salt. It culminates with the symbolic representation of the triumph of good over evil. The music band visits the mining mezcal palenques, where groups of pintos, women and old men emerge and join the troupes that tour the town.
