Established in 1960, Maputo National Park is located in the southern part of the capital city, Maputo. With an extension of 1040 km2, its natural landscape holds wonderful forests with sandy soil and mangroves, swamps, and parabolic dunes covered with vegetation. The elephant is the most charismatic species in the Park, although visitors can also see zebras, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of antelopes and birds, such as the famous osprey.
