Giethoorn is a unique water village in the Netherlands. The village is also called the Venice of the Netherlands. The excavation of peat soils has created a unique canal system, so that the houses in the center can only be reached by boat. The houses in the center of Giethoorn are picturesque farmhouses with thatched roofs. In addition, the houses are on small islands since they are all completely surrounded by water. This makes it impossible to reach the houses by car. Only by boat or walking where a bridge must be crossed.
During the cruise you will sail through these small canals and under the bridges while enjoying coffee or tea. The guide / captain gives you text and explanation about the unique water village. The emergence of the village is discussed as well as unique features that make the village different from all other villages in the Netherlands.
