What To Expect

Set off in a relaxing pace to make sure you really get to see, feel and learn all about this town.
Discover the rich history of the Netherland's first settlement. Nijmegen is now the country's 10th largest city, but dates back to the Bronze Age when the Romans built a military camp, known then as Ulpia Noviamagus Batavorum.During this walking tour you will visit the ancient Roman walls and other dilapidated relics of the era. Other monuments to see are the powder tower, the public weighing house, the old town hall and Radboud University, named after the Dutch patron saint of Catholic science, Bishop Radboud. At the end of the tour you will go to the Stevens Church. Construction of the church started halfway the 13th century. In 1273 the church was consecrated by Albert Magnus, the Bishop of Cologne. On the third week of July, visitors will witness the city's most important event: people from all over the world partake in the planet's largest march with 40,000 participants covering 30-50 kilometers daily. To be sure, this is a sight not to be missed.
