Many think Bergen is just Bryggen, the fish market and the funicular. But there is so much more! Bergen is a city full of history and secret charming areas. Nordnes is one of the best-kept secrets in Bergen city centre.
On this tour we will learn about how Norwegians lived and traded in Bergen. We will see different class levels of houses, from the wealthy merchant to the poor sailor. Large merchant houses still stand today, but fire and war has transformed Nordnes into a mix of architectural styles. Still, hidden behind the 1950s apartment buildings are preserved streets from the 17th century.
This tour isn't just about the history of Nordnes - the area has some of the city's best cafes and restaurants if you want to escape the city and live like a local. We will also discuss aspects of everyday life in Bergen, such as our working day and why we don't own cars.
We have small groups only to ensure we can walk in the neighbourhood's small streets without disturbing the locals.
