The Historic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu was chosen as one of the seven wonders of the world for the grandeur and beauty of the entire archaeological complex. It is known that the site was never explored by the Spaniards upon their arrival in the empire, which is why it is a spectacular example of the great Inca organization, architecture and engineering.
The work that the Incas did and how they were able to build cities, platforms and complex roads on top of the mountain is admirable.
In addition, Machu Picchu was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
