Fajardo is located in the most northeastern part of Puerto Rico. The city is named after Santiago de Fajardo who is a Spanish explorer who found a river full of gold in that area. Fajardo is home to one of three bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico and is closest to San Juan, making it the most popular bioluminescent bay for locals and tourists. Bioluminescent bays “glow in the dark” when the water is agitated by movement. Puerto Rico is unique in comparison to many countries across the world because its three bioluminescent bays are active year round. Only two other countries have a bioluminescent bay that is active year round. Enjoy this magical experience that can’t be experienced anywhere else by joining us for a kayak ride.
