What To Expect

This is the best route to see all the most emblematic points of central Lisbon, from the old city, in which lived Phoenicians, Romans and Moors, to the Chiado noble area and the bohemian Bairro Alto, the result of the growth of the metropolis after the golden age of the Discoveries.

We start at the magnificent Praca do Comercio and from there just climb to Lisbon Cathedral, the viewpoints of Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol, passing by the Roman Theater of Olisipo and the church of Saint Anthony, the protector of lovers.

Through narrow serpentine streets, we go up to the working-class district of Graca. Then, from the highest point, with the city at our feet, we say hello to the Lady of the Hill and the Sao Jorge castle, before visiting the monastery of Sao Vicente de Fora and the National Pantheon.

In Alfama, Sardinha goes beautiful and safe and even sings the folk music fado, among narrow streets and alleys, once known to be of a bad reputation. The Fado Museum is already there, but there's no time to lose, we go to Baixa Pombalina and back to Chiado and Bairro Alto, the districts from chic ladies and gentlemen, writers and artists.

Shopping is for later, but there is still time to go to the Carmo Convent, the Sao Pedro de Alcantara viewpoint and the Principe Real garden, where bars, restaurants and antique and design shops are located. This is no assorted out Lisbon: it's a real sardine barbecue of 120 minutes.
