What To Expect

The Moorish Castle is a military fortification that was established during the 9th century by the North African Moors to guard the town of Sintra, but it fell into disrepair after the Christian conquest of Portugal. It was later acquired and restored by Ferdinand II as a medieval ruin, also in keeping with the romantic taste of the period. The castle has an irregular plan and is composed of a double belt of walls. The internal wall presents a bailey, battlements and the reinforcement provided by five fortified towers. Inside, the cistern, fed by rainwater, and the Royal Tower are some of the most interesting features.Don't think twice, if you're looking for the best views of Sintra, visit the Moorish Castle with entrance tickets to make this experience an unforgettable one. The castle will allow you to admire, along the paths, between rocks and cliffs, a unique landscape that extends to the Atlantic Ocean, overlooking Sintra Mountains covered in green and dotted with beautiful homesteads, romantic chalets, and interesting palaces.
