What To Expect

The Kremlin Cathedral Square is the unique complex dated XV-XVI centuries. It was originally used as the main venue for important ceremonies and Orthodox celebrations. The Kremlin Cathedral Square includes Patriarch’s palace, Archangel’s cathedral, Annunciation Cathedral, Assumption Cathedral. Most of complex churches have been reconstructed few times. For instance, the unique Filaret Annex constructed for the Patriarch in 1624, was detonated by Napoleon in 1812 and then was renewed few years later. The most famous sight of the Cathedral square is the Ivan the Great Bell Tower which was erected by the Italian architect Bon Fryazin in 1505-1508 based on the foundation of the church of St. Ivan Climacus. However, just 100 years later by the order of Tsar Boris Godunov it was raised from 60 up to 81 meters high. Nowadays, you can hear 21 bells playing in this tower including the mightiest one named the Great Assumption bell (weighing approximately 65,5 tons).
