This guided walking tour will take you to 50km2 large Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the only national park in Zanzibar. In the natural forest, the smaller trees and shrubs make several sub-canopies under the highest canopy. The protected land includes a groundwater forest, coastal forest, grassland, with mangroves and salt marsh at the coast. The half-day trip to Jozani Forest is excellent for nature lovers and naturalists.
You will walk with an experienced park ranger through the nature trail of the forest, which is the habitat for many species of animals and birds. It is famous for its Red Colobus Monkey, an endangered species endemic to Unguja or Zanzibar. The Zanzibar Red Colobus has been isolated from its mainland counterparts for at least ten to fifteen thousand years, thus producing distinct sub-species with different calls, eating habits and coat patterns. Jozani Forest has become the last stronghold in the world for this particular type of colobus. Other species found in the forest are the Sykes monkey, bushbabies, Duikers and rich variety of birds and butterflies.
Guests will be picked up from the hotel. Customers must be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start of the tour.
