What To Expect
The Houmas House historic mansion attracts thousands of tourists each year from all over the world. The guided mansion tour is 60 minutes in length and includes every room on both stories of the mansion. See period antiques, artwork, and artifacts that tell the story of the plantation on a guided tour.Once you wrap up your mansion tour head over to the Great River Road Steamboat Museum boasting a 35,000 sq ft space adjacent to the Houmas Estate. The museum details life on the Mississippi River. Exhibits and artifacts present visuals and explore the commerce, folklore, culture, and the music of the lower Mississippi River. The museum also features a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A handicap-accessible bridge is steps away from the entrance and offers a fun way to cross River Road and have a front-row seat to view the Mississippi River.

Important info
- It is suggested that guests wear comfortable shoes. High heels are not recommended as the property is quite expansive. In the summer months, the climate is very warm. Wear cool and comfortable clothes. Winters are mild, but occasionally it does get cold so please be prepared
- The mansion, restaurants, and gift shop are all centrally air-conditioned and heated
- Photography is allowed and designated sitting areas are offered in each room
- Houmas Mansion guided tour is one hour. The museum visit is at your own pace. For this option, plan to stay at Houmas House for several hours

Houmas House is located near New Orleans in Darrow, Louisiana. Taxi services are not available from Houmas House Plantation to Baton Rouge or New Orleans. If you need transportation, it is recommended you rent a car. If coming from New Orleans, a daily bus service is available.
