The National Museum of African American Music is the premier global destination for music lovers of all generations that inspires, educates, and transforms your appreciation of American Music. NMAAM has acquired over 1,500 artifacts from groundbreaking artists who have topped the charts and significantly changed the trajectory of music. These artifacts speak to the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans. Artifact examples include:

  • The local kiosk does not have a grab-and-go food option
  • The gift shop sells only water
  • The museum store features a variety of unique and custom gifts and collectibles
  • The National Museum of African American Music is an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant facility. Auxiliary aids and services necessary to ensure guests with disabilities can be provided
  • All service animals recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are welcome. Emotional support animals are not permitted
  • Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Luggage, carry-on bags, or oversized backpacks are not permitted in the museum. There will be storage available for guests who bring these items
  • The museum is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm (last entry 4:00pm) except for Sundays when it is open from 12:00pm to 5:00pm (last entry 4:00pm)
  • The Museum is open daily until the 30th of September
  • From October 1st the museum is closed on Mondays
  • On Christmas Eve the museum is open from 9:00am to 1:00pm
  • On New Year’s Eve the museum is open from 9:00am to 12:00pm
  • Please note that the first Wednesday of each month is free to all guests
