Explore Bulgaria’s Socialist past at your own pace with a 3-hour self-guided tour of the Museum of Socialist Art, in the heart of Sofia. The Museum of Socialist Art presents works from the period of Socialist rule in Bulgaria (1944–1989).Watch a short film about Bulgaria’s Communist past to learn the historical background and deepen your understanding of the exhibitions.Then, as you wander through the museum, see busts of famous leaders like Georgi Dimitrov, Dimitar Blagoev, Vasil Kolarov, Todor Zhivkov, and Lenin. Gaze at typical Socialist Realism artwork, including statues of unknown partisans, workers, and the Red Army soldiers. Explore the exhibit of Socialist-era paintings, many depicting Stalin, Marx and Engels. Take a peek at the masterpiece of the museum, the great five-pointed red star which once was on top of the Party building in the center of Sofia.
