Uffizi Gallery Discover Renaissance Masterpieces

+23 photos
The Uffizi Gallery is a must-see when visiting Florence. Built in 1560 and considered the oldest museum in the world, it was designed by the renowned Renaissance architect Giorgio Vasari. The gallery’s creation was initiated by Cosimo I de' Medici, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, who sought to reassert the power of the Medici family.
To monitor his rivals, Cosimo I assigned offices to them in the building, and the name "Uffizi" reflects this purpose, meaning "offices" in Italian. After his death, Cosimo’s sons lost interest in politics, and his eldest son, Francesco I, transformed the Uffizi into a private museum by displaying his personal collection of art.
This tour will provide you with an enriching history of some of Florence's most treasured masterpieces. At the end of the tour, take a moment to unwind in the café located on the Uffizi’s terrace. Enjoy a splendid view of the city, relax, and capture unforgettable photos of Florence from this beautiful vantage point.
