Half-day guided tour of Herculaneum UNESCO World Heritage Site with optional transport

+9 photos
Like nearby Pompeii, ancient Herculaneum suffered a similar fate at the hands of Vesuvius erupting in 79AD. Fortunately, archaeologists have managed to excavate parts of the city, and this half-day tour will show you what they've managed to unearth so far.Fossilised in time by the volcanic rock that tragically buried the city, wandering around the archaeological site of Herculaneum is just like stepping through an open-air history book. This bite-size tour will take you to and from the site in just one morning, with enough time to explore the historical relics on a guided walk. You'll even see preserved pieces of furniture, upper wooden floors of houses, mosaics on the floor and sculptures as you take a peek around the houses and streets. All this has made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and provides you with an unrivalled insight into life of the ancient Romans.
