On this tour of Mina de Sal-Gema in Loulé you'll walk through the mine galleries and admire geological formations that are about 230 million years old in an underground route 230 m deep.Along a 1.3 km trail and with the interpretation of a guide, get to know the applications and usefulness of rock salt, and discover the evolution of the mining process throughout history. Observe the geological beauty of the rock salt walls and the old and current machinery exposed in the mine and hear about the importance of this place in the geological and economic context of the region.Then, explore the site from an artistic perspective by learning the history of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, interpreted by contemporary artist Klaus Zylla through twelve very colorful paintings.
