Guided winter nature tour in Storforsen

+3 photos
Join this day tour which will take you to the Storforsen nature reserve for a walking tour and let yourself be carried away by the thundering river. The Pite River is one of the four unharnessed National Rivers of Sweden. It stretches 400 kilometres from its glacial source to the sea and its rapids are one of the biggest unrestricted water rapids in Europe.Accompanied by an expert guide, you will go exploring the surroundings of the river as you get informed about the area, history and wildlife. The river goes through some magnificent transformation in winter as the pools start freezing in November and December, then when air temperatures drop really low the rapids might even freeze. An ice dam forms and water is forced out into the surrounding forest, freezing over around the trees and bushes of the river banks into a unique winter scenery. In winter the river banks are often lined with tracks from grouse, hare, squirrels, elk and reindeer. During the walk you might be able to see otter and mink looking for spots of open water, rapids and streams where they can fish.Halfway through the tour, you will stop for a break and you will enjoy lunch cooked over an open fire by your guide as well as some hot beverages to keep warm.
