Full-day private UNESCO tour of Škocjan Caves and Karst region

+5 photos
Slovenia is certainly beautiful, there's no doubt about that, but there's more to this fascinating country than first meets the eye. Deep beneath the ground lies an ethereal world unlike any you've seen before and as your eyes adjust to the light, you'll pick out caves, halls, and probably the world's largest subterranean canyon. The Škocjan caves have been carved out over millions of years by running water, which has created lagoons and incredible geological sculptures deep under the earth. Your guide will help you explore the Regional Park here which has plenty to offer over the ground, too. You'll then head to Lipica, famous for its beautiful stud horses. The historical Habsburgs had very high expectations of how they wanted their court and military horses to be, so over 400 years ago the Karst horse was bred and refined to their exacting standards, producing the horses you see here today. If you're interested, let a local guide show you around the stables, pastures and introduce you to some of the finest Karst horses in the world.
