How soon is too soon to propose?

Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer to that one (sorry, Google), but If you are ready to pop the question and want to make it an offer your other half can’t refuse, you’re in the right place. Make the proposal shine like a diamond with any one of these unmissable locations:

  1. America

You don’t have to go too far afield to find the perfect proposal spot, but you already know that, don’t you? The options are there, you’ve just got to decide which one is best for you! Maybe we can help:

  • New York. It’s difficult to know where to even start in a place like this. Yes, of course you can pick any one of the iconic landmarks to ask your question - think the Empire State Building (complete with a saxophonist!), which is probably one of the most popular - but, in truth, with such a well-recognized skyline at your disposal you can choose just about anywhere in this remarkable city for an unforgettable experience. If it’s a daytime proposal you’re after, our top pick is Central Park - especially the picturesque Bow Bridge - home to many a scene in almost every New York movie you can think of. You can even incorporate this with a romantic horse and carriage ride around the park - bliss!
  • Sunset Cliffs, California. This insta-worthy scene overlooking the Pacific Ocean lies just outside San Diego, enhanced by the always-perfect weather.
  • Hawaii. Any one of the eight islands here would be received veerrry well by your other half. Whether it’s onboard a helicopter, mid-way through a hike, under a waterfall or on one of the many idyllic beaches, there’s no way you’ll get anything but an affirmative answer to your question!
  • Los Angeles. Oh, go on then - join the history books of asking your partner to marry you in one of the most beloved proposal spots in the world - Disneyland. (Well, if it’s good enough for Mickey …) Alternatively, get yourself an all-inclusive pass for the city’s best attractions and see if something else takes your fancy! • Las Vegas. You won’t find anywhere more glitzy and glamorous than Sin City, offering a wealth of epic proposal spots along The Strip - and beyond. For something a bit more low-key, we can’t recommend a trip to the Grand Canyon enough. Read more: Our Best US Cities: Part 1 - Las Vegas
  • Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. For soaring peaks that tower well over 12,000 feet, green valleys, calm streams and wondrous wildlife, this one’s got your name all over it. Book your tour here
  • Seattle, Washington. You won’t find any place more iconic than the Space Needle, offering the most incredible views of the city. In truth, however, there are so many things to do here you should probably get yourself a Seattle City pass for a heavily discounted rate on up to five attractions.
  • Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco. The perfect proposal spot in one of the world’s most romantic cities, come for the skyline and stay for the guided bike tour.

2. Sydney, Australia

It’s not just anywhere that delivers a sophisticated urban experience and beautiful beaches, but then, not just anywhere is Sydney! There’s so much to do in this impressive city and you can do it all (while saving up to 50%) with this combo pass.

If you’re going to travel halfway around the world, it better be worth it, right?

3. France

  • Paris. Let’s be honest, there’s little point pretending there’s anywhere more perfect! Yes, it’s a bit predictable, but who says there’s anything wrong with that? Between the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, bent on one knee under the Arc de Triomphe or on Pont Neuf - backdropped by the spectacular sunset - it may not be unique, but it tops every survey conducted on the most romantic places to propose for very good reason! Of course, you can bypass the ‘big ticket’ spots for a more intimate and unique setting instead, such as on the cobbled streets of Le Marais or in one of the city’s delectable bakeries.
  • Èze. It may not have the same ring (ba dum ts), but it was good enough for Walt Disney, who fell in love with the cobbled streets and botanic gardens making up this charming village. Book a private tour from Nice

4. London, England

You won’t be short of places to propose in a city almost 15 times the size of Paris! Bursting with historically ornate buildings and world-famous parks to rival the best of the best, you can ask the most important question of your life just about anywhere here. However, our top picks are The Shard - the UK’s tallest building complete with six fine-dining restaurants and The Gherkin - a building that is literally in the shape of a pickle and also offers spectacular views of the city. (But a pickle! A pickle!)

5. Ireland

  • Cliffs of Moher. Dramatic coastline cliffs reaching a staggering height of over 200m offer some of the most incredible views over an equally incredible ocean. If you want an intimate experience here, come early in the morning before the crowds descend. Book your tour here
  • The Causeway Coastal Route. If your other half is a Game of Thrones enthusiast, this could be a memorable proposal trip as you tick off various filming locations - and whiskey distilleries - along the way.

6. Bahamas

With breathtaking beaches and perfect year-round weather, this celebrity favorite Caribbean destination is about as good as it gets. Book a tour from Miami

7. Scotland

  • Glencoe. The five-hour trek up the Pap of Glencoe mountain - boasting sensational views of the region - is more than worth it. Trust us. Book your tour here
  • Isle of Skye. This dream-like island is filled with cascading pools, castles and views for days. A simple picnic - backdropped by some of the most stunning scenery you’ll ever see - should be enough to seal the deal.
  • Edinburgh. A medieval cobblestoned city with castles, green spaces, beaches and more culture than you’ll know what to do with, the opportunities here are endless. Edinburgh is also a great starting point to explore the rest of Scotland from, and you can do so as part of this day trip.

8. Norway

There are few places quite like Norway - a personal favorite spot of ours for viewing the Northern Lights, among many others! Geirangerfjord is another highlight, surrounded by cascading waterfalls and birds-eye views. Read more: The Best Destinations For 2022: Norway

9. Iceland

Another unmissable spot for the Northern Lights - between September and April.

Looking for the experience closer to home? Check out the Murphy Dome Northern Lights tour in Alaska. Sidebar: Sitka, Alaska was also the setting for “The Proposal, and you can replicate some of the magic from the 2009 movie in many ways. Our top pick is this whale-watching experience.

10. Bavaria, Germany

For a real-life fairytale, head to Neuschwanstein Castle - the actual inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland and Cinderella's Castle in Disney World! Surrounded by dense forest, it makes up one of the country’s most popular hiking trails. Take the short detour to the Marienbrücke bridge for the best and most incredible view of the castle.

11. Greece

  • Santorini. Beloved as one of the most romantic islands globally - and for excellent reason! Boasting quintessential blue-and-white buildings, world-class wineries and sensational sunsets over the sparkling turquoise sea, you can be sure that this picture-perfect piece of paradise will suitably enchant you and your loved one. Pop the question on board a catamaran cruise
  • Athens. Tantalize your taste buds on this evening food walk as you take in the amazing architecture and picturesque views.

A classic proposal spot, choose from any of these romantic places:

  • Cinque Terre. You know what this is, even if you think you don’t; you’ll instantly recognize the colorful cliff-side towns making up this collection on the western coast of Italy. The opportunities to pop the question here are endless - from atop a rowboat, during a bike tour or simply on the beach.
  • Venice. Well, it’s not called the City of Love for nothing! Synonymous with all-things romance for hundreds of years, hop onto a gondola - gelato in hand - and soak up the gothic architecture, captivating canals, hidden bridges, cobbled streets and timelessly jaw-dropping views as you start a new chapter in your own love story. A bit cliché, maybe, but when it’s this sensational, who really cares? Take part in a masked Venetian ball!
  • Florence. Yet another idyllic proposal spot, courtesy of the awe-inspiring art, bustling food markets and delicious eateries. Book a walking tour here
  • Verona. If you (and, more importantly, your other half) like your romance with a huge side of cheese, you could do a lot worse than heading to Casa di Giulietta - home of Juliet’s balcony. Of course, the story is fictional and Shakespeare never even went to Verona, but this - one of the city’s most popular attractions - has been declared the residence of the Capulets for more than a century. As such, you can channel your own great love story (hopefully without the tragic ending) in this very spot. Swoon.
  • Amalfi Coast. Water-front restaurants, quiet bars, boat rides and a scenic drive; there are several ways to pop the question in this cliff-side gem.
  • Rome. Is there anywhere better to ask the love of your life to spend eternity with you than in the Eternal City itself? We think not. It would be remiss of us to snub the bucket list chart-toppers, such as the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps - especially as these can make for the most perfect proposal spots - but it would also be remiss of us not to mention that it can be hard to find an intimate spot in which to do so among the throng of tourists. With that in mind, you may want to find somewhere a bit more off-the-beaten-track.

14. Saint Lucia

The world is - thankfully - blessed with endless tropical islands, but the stunning Anse Chastanet beach is up there with the best. If watersports are your thing, you’ll be spoiled for choice along the reef, where you can scuba dive and snorkel, while otherworldly views of the Caribbean await from high on the volcanic cliffs. Other options include horseback riding on the beach, catamaran cruises and candlelit dinners.

15. Croatia

  • Mljet Island. Sometimes, the lesser-known option is the more desirable, which is certainly the case here. This isolated national park - Croatia’s greenest island - is covered in dense forest and dotted with fishing villages and hidden beach coves, making for an incredibly unique proposal spot.
  • Dubrovnik. But - of course - you can’t go wrong with this tourist hotspot, either. From historic fortresses to a swoon-worthy coastline, Dubrovnik’s got it all. Another definitive yes for any Game of Thrones fans out there!

If you’re looking for something a bit more casual, there are plenty of amorous beach spots for you to get down on one knee, too!
  • Ibiza. If you can’t party the night away on the day you get engaged, then when can you? Indulge your hedonistic side for a truly indecent proposal before chilling out on the beach with a spot of sunrise yoga. Or, just leave the crowded nightclub scene altogether and choose any one of the idyllic white beaches on offer. Start as you mean to go on in this luxury pick-up car from the airport
  • Madrid. Retiro Park - with its exuberant greenhouse, segway tours, rowboats and rose gardens - is a pretty good place to pop the question - especially if you pick up some tapas on the way for a picnic! Come nighttime, you can enjoy a flamenco show that the city is famed for - glass of cava in hand.

18. Bali

To Eat, Propose, Love (see what we did there?) it can only be Bali - the year-round, balmy destination with oodles of romance. There’s no shortage of activity, such as hiking up Mount Batur for a sunrise proposal. Otherwise, you can just choose any of the breathtaking beaches - each offering up a slice of paradise - with a healthy side of yoga, pampering and all-round wellness.

19. On the Moon

No, not that moon, but if you are looking for an out-of-this-world option, the closest you’ll probably get is the Moon Valley in Namibia, where NASA actually tested the Mars rover! The lunar-like landscape and unbeatable stargazing promise an ethereal experience like no other.

Book your sunset dinner cruise today

22. Cappadocia, Turkey

We guess all that’s left to say is … best of luck! And let us know what they say! :)
